Project Pencil Case provides essential material items for students in need including filled pencil cases to primary school students. “Is this for my class to share” one child asked me when I first began donating pencil cases as they were so used to sharing pens and pencils so the idea of owning a pencil case filled with pens, pencils, eraser and ruler was considered a luxury… The pencil cases are produced by our social enterprise partner ARAKELE in Addis Ababa training marginalised women to sew…..
We also work with under resourced or war damaged schools and fund raise to provide books, shelves, blackboards, desks, chairs and more ….
We provide high school girls with reusable period pad kits (4 pads per kit) to help girls stay in school and not attend school for several days every month; this severely affects their education and due to lack of vital supplies can cause girls to fall behind and then drop out of school… The kits are also produced by Arakele.
We provide scholarships for students to learn a skill at Arakele which will lead to sustainable employment.
